WELCOME TO OUR NEW SCHOOLs: WHITE STATION ELEMENTARY and Collegiate School of Memphis
We wanted to welcome back our old families and to introduce ourselves to our new families. We are looking forward to another great school year and to spending time with you and your family. If you have any questions, please feel free to call the center at 327-LIFE (5433) or drop by for a visit.
We strive to provide an experience as close to being at home as possible for our children. This includes a great snack, a time to play outside in our playground or our gymnasium, participate in a game of kick ball, whiffle ball, basketball or football or simply enjoy swinging on the tire swing, sliding down the slides or hanging out at the HANGOUT and swing on one of the four porch swings.
After play time, we provide an opportunity for children to do their homework with the assistance of staff serving as tutors. We have a very caring and talented staff, many are college students who are majoring in the field of education.
AFTER SCHOOL CARE AND HOMEWORK: At Lindenwood, we understand how important homework is to you and your child. We provide several homework opportunities Monday thru Thursday (Friday is a less formal homework day).
K-3 has a set homework time each day in their classroom. All children are asked to participate in either assigned homework from their school, a project from our staff (if no homework), or to participate in quiet centers during the homework time.
Older children will be divided into two groups, 4-5 and 6-8. Each group will have an activity room and a homework room.
We do not force after school children to participate in our homework sessions. There are times when some students do not have homework. Also, some parents want to be involved with their child’s homework assignments and want their child to do their homework at home. We also have 3 different school systems that attend Lindenwood and sometimes they may not assign homework due to TCAPS or other school programs. It is up to the parent to inform their child about what they expect concerning their child’s completion of their homework. In order to encourage your child to complete their homework, we do not open areas such as the arcade center until later in the day.
All of our homework sessions provide adult assistance with homework. Please let us know if your child is unable to do their homework for any reason or if you have any suggestions or concerns. We want your child to be successful during their time at Lindenwood.
RIDING THE BUS Safety is our primary concern. We have highly qualified drivers and school buses that are built like tanks. Each of our drivers have commercial license with a P endorsement (passenger), a child care certification, two state mandated training sessions per year, current first aid and CPR, and over 100 years of experience between them.
After School Bus Rules
1. Leave windows in the upright position. All of our buses have air conditioners
2. Wear their seat belts at all times
3. Keep the noise level down by using indoor voices
4. Stay seated and leave their seat belt on until the driver announces for them to take them off
5. Keep the bus clean, throw away all trash
6. No food or drink allowed on the bus
7. Keep aisle cleared of backpacks, books, musical instruments, etc.
8. Enter and exit in an orderly manner—no pushing or shoving
9. Remove all of their belongings as they exit the bus
10. Provide the bus driver with their first and last name as they enter and exit the bus (Roll Sheet)
Buses departure from the Schools If you know your child will be absent, please call the Life Center number as soon as possible (901) 327-5433. The bus drivers are required to stay at the school 8 minutes after dismissal time. The first few weeks we will have them stay longer due to new students, schedules, and teachers. After this time period, children that do not make it to the bus in time should go back to the office to inform the secretary that they missed the bus. Lindenwood will send the first available bus back to the school for a fee of $10.00 or you may pick them up at the school.
Procedure for picking your child up at the school You may pick up your child at the school. If you have not called the Life Center please inform the driver that your child will not be riding the bus. If your child gets on the bus you are required to sign the bus roll to check your child out. However, if the bus has left the school grounds it will not be allowed to stop to allow your child off until it reaches Lindenwood.
Inclement Weather Policy The Lindenwood buses do not pick up at schools during school closings due to inclement weather or other emergencies.

Friday Night @ Lindenwood (used to be our Freedom Friday Program)
This year we have made major changes to our Freedom Friday Program. We have basically ended the old Freedom Friday as it was currently structured. Our new Freedom Friday Program will have several major changes as outlined below.
List of Changes Old Program New Program
Name change: Freedom Friday Friday Night @ Lindenwood
Number of Times per month: once a month twice on most months Hours: 6:30 to 11:00pm 6:30 to 10:30pm Cost: $15 $12 with $20 maximum family ($15 for guests)
Enrollment: open to public ASP children and their guests Grades Accepted: K-8 grades Dino Fours and K-8
It is always hard to end a program that has been such a big part of our community for so many years, however, we feel the changes are needed in order to provide greater security, better staffing, and a more manageable enrollment and attendance process.
Friday Night @ Lindenwood (FNL) will still provide many of the same activities offered during Freedom Friday. Children who attend FNL will be familiar with our staff, rules and expectations and we will have a current relationship with the parents. In order to help us hire the appropriate number of staff, After school families will be asked to sign up their children and the number of guests by the Wednesday before each FNL. This year, our Dino Four children (current in our Child Care Program) may also attend. All other friends and family (other than siblings) may attend as a guest. See below for details.
Guest Program: In order to keep our doors open to the community, our after school students will be allowed to invite one guest per FNL event. Each guest must fill out the FNL Guest Registration Form. A registered guest may then attend additional FNL events if they are re-invited by an active after school student.
Guests will pay $15 per student- per Friday Night @ Lindenwood . An active after school student may only invite one guest per FNL event. Guests may not attend uninvited – even after they pay the registration fee.
Guests must behave appropriately while at the Life Center. Guests may be refused future admission if they violate Life Center rules and policies. Guests may not be older than 14 years of age or beyond the 8th grade. Guests must be in good disciplinary standing and current with all financial obligations with the life Center and all Lindenwood programs. For security reasons, Dino Fours are not allowed to invite guests.
Friday Night @ Lindenwood Calendar for 2010-11 is the following:
2nd and 4th Fridays in September, January. February, and March.
2nd Friday only on the following months: November, December, April and May.
4th Friday only in October.
If you registered early for the After School Program and received free Freedom Friday passes, you may use them for the Friday Night at Lindenwood Program.
Our first Friday Night at Lindenwood will be on September 10. Hope to see you there!
